SHASHIN ETC

Hi, I'm Marc. This tumblr is about Japanese photography and all things related. I also have a blog, eyecurious, for more elaborate photographic musings, exhibition and book reviews, etc. You can find out more about my projects here.

Moving to eyecurious.com

Over the last few weeks I have been trying to juggle a tumblelog and a weblog, which I started writing recently. My juggling skills just aren’t good enough, so I have decided to suspend posting on Shashin-etc and to focus on blogging over at www.eyecurious.com. Hope that some of you followers will come check out eyecurious.com

The big intellectual skirmish going on was “Is it great that we’re so different, men and women, or is there no difference at all?” No difference at all is where is started. The show is pitch-perfect. I am in love.

Weirdly we have planned to go to a karaoke club tonight (the only one in Paris). It seems oddly appropriate. I know I will definitely be singing a few Jacko numbers. R.I.P.

target="_blank" Demotix

Demotix is a “citizen-journalism website and photo agency. It takes user-generated content (UGC) and photographs from freelance journalists and amateurs, and markets them to the mainstream media.” Interesting to see this kind of agency starting to pop up, hopefulyl will really widen the spectrum of the news, but it does seriously concern me that this might be what replaces journalism. What are your thoughts?

And here’s a little bonus extra. This is a time lapse video of the 300,00-hour renovation by Ando. Turn the volume way up for this one: the soundtrack is Pachelbel’s Canon on an electric guitar straight out of the 1980s… only in Italy is this kind of thing still possible without a single hint of irony.

Monsieur Tilt-Shift aka Naoki Honjo was recently commissioned by the New York Times to photograph Paris as part of their feature on Nicolas Sarkozy’s (megalomaniacal?) invitation to architects from around the world to rethink the future of the city.
